Riverhouse – Bed and Breakfast

There is a bus stop for the local Isle of Man bus service a few minutes walk from the driveway of the guest house, so it is fairly easy to get out and about to explore the island.
Ramsey is in the North of the Isle of Man and is the sunniest part of the island. It has a little harbour and a main shopping street with restaurants, takeaways, and small supermarkets. Facilities nearby include an excellent 18-hole golf course, walking, cycling, swimming in an indoor pool, canoeing, and the delightful Mooragh Park with its recently installed fitness equipment.
The River House was built around 1820 and was completely renovated by the present owner and furnished with antiques, including the two elegant and comfortable reception rooms which guests may use.
Bedrooms and bathrooms are spacious, luxuriously appointed, and furnished with pretty chintzes, and there are lovely views of the river, the nature reserve, and Snaefell.
The main house has an ensuite twin, an ensuite double and on the top landing a family room consisting of an interconnecting double and a twin room, which share their own bathroom. This family room is ideal for families and also friends who want to share but have their own beds and space.
Separately, there is a ground level suite which has a large beautifully furnished sitting room and bedroom with adjoining bathroom, both with double French windows opening out onto the river.
All rooms have flat screen televisions and tea and coffee making facilities.
A full English breakfast is served in the sunny Garden Room. Guests may choose cereals, porridge, grapefruit, bacon, sausage, tomato, mushroom, baked beans, hash browns, and eggs cooked as they wish, followed by toast with home made marmalade and jams, and tea or coffee. If asked for in advance, guests may also have Manx kippers or smoked haddock.
These are some of the things guests have written about The River House:
“More than lived up to the excellent recommendation.”
“Beautiful home and furnishing to a high standard. Excellent breakfast.”
“Thoroughly enjoyed our stay – lovely house, great island, and friendly people.
